Care & Sizing for Your Jewelry

Care of Your Jewelry

I use quality sterling and fine silver in my designs and most of my designs are patinated and oxidized to bring out texture and contrast. Silver does tend to tarnish when exposed to moisture. To brighten up your silver jewelry, I recommend gentle polishing with a treated silver polishing cloth (such as Sunshine). Chemical dips or abrasives are harsh and will remove oxidation and could stain porous stones. I also recommend storing all your favorite silver jewelry in plastic bags to help prevent tarnish.

I adore turquoise and use it often in my jewelry. Turquoise stones (and many other stones) are quite porous and should never be worn in water, hot tubs, pools, etc. and when applying hand lotions or oils. Also, remove jewelry when cleaning with harsh chemicals or bleach.

If wire components on your earrings or bangle bracelets become bent, use gentle pressure with your fingers to repair. If bends are extreme or you are not comfortable trying to readjust your jewelry, I will be happy to fix the items. Contact me and we can discuss options.

Determine Your Bangle Size

Stacking bangles are fabulous!
A proper fit for a bangle can be challenging if you don’t have the ability to try it on! To determine your size, you must take some measurements.

Method 1:
Measure the inner diameter of a bangle you already have with a ruler. Then use the Bangle Size Chart to select a bangle size.

Method 2:
Close fingers together, fold your thumb in as far as possible across your hand.
Using a strip of paper, string or flexible measuring tape, measure around the closed hand at the widest point. The tape should snug, not tight. If you are using a plain strip of paper, mark the paper with a pen, then measure the strip with a ruler. This is the circumference of your hand.
Use the chart below to find the corresponding diameter. Then find the corresponding diameter measurement next to it. Add 1/4” to the Diameter Measurement so that the bangle you choose will slip on easily.

7” 2-1/4” XSmall
7-1/2 2-3/8” Small
8-1/4” 2-5/8” Medium

Cuff Bracelet Sizing

Measure your wrist below the wrist bone by wrapping a string, strip of paper or flexible measuring tape loosely around the wrist. If using paper or string, mark the end, then measure with a ruler. This circumference is the wrist size. To find the bracelet size, compare the circumference to the Cuff size chart below to find your bracelet size. If your wrist measures in-between two sizes, round up to the larger size.
